AJ's Steakhouse
Review by Rick Rosen
First things first: We were
greeted warmly by the hostess and she confirmed our reservations and had us
seated within sixty seconds of our arrival which is exceptional by any
standard.
The live piano music was the basic fare for restaurants but was
pleasant nonetheless.
The house wine (Blush Zinfandel) was served perfectly chilled and was as
delicious as promised by the knowledgeable and friendly waiter.
The crab cakes on the rather pricey appetizer plate were exquisite and
quite possibly the best I've had and the white asparagus
was also very
tasty.
The entrees were good but not great but were served exactly as ordered
which is the exception rather than the rule unfortunately.
The "festive" bar area that is not separated from the
dining area made for a louder than I like meal and I can't imagine that
it is
conducive to either business or romance and the darker than usual
lighting made
for many people to be seen using their cell phones
for light to
read the somewhat limited menu.
The coordination between the wait staff and the bus staff was
remarkable and their hustle and efficiency
are also noteworthy. The crème boulet was a fine finale to a good meal and was a much more
fitting goodbye memory than our exit.
I would rate AJ's Steakhouse as better than most and also note
that there was a very wide variety of dress and several levels of loudness
mixed together which left me feeling that AJ's is searching for an
identity and
hasn't quite decided just what fits it best and which
direction to pursue.
I would recommend
AJ's if you're not planning on presenting a proposal to either
a
business associate or your future Mrs.
