Customers with Disabilities
Airport Wheelchairs
Continental has available wheelchairs for use at each of its locations.
Most stations will start their day with several wheelchairs at curbside
and replenish these throughout the day. If no wheelchairs are in view
upon arrival, a verbal request should be made to the skycap or agent
who will secure one as soon as possible. The standard width of these
wheelchairs is nineteen inches (19").
Electric carts are also available at Cleveland, Houston, Newark and
several other airports. These carts are for use by our semi-ambulatory
customers when walking longer distances is a problem. These carts will
pick up and drop off several customers throughout the terminal.
Aisle Wheelchairs
Continental has a newly designed wheelchair for our non-ambulatory
customers use in reaching their seat when boarding and deplaning our
aircraft. We sought the help of the experts at The Institute for
Rehabilitation and Research in Houston, which provided us with valuable
feedback. The chair features four swivel wheels, a low curved bar on
the back for easier handling, a full back bar brake system, movable
armrests, strategically located belt buckles to ensure a safe and
secure transport and a lower seat for easier transfers to and from a
customers' personal wheelchair. Most stations have these chairs
available in each jetway where the transfer from a customer's personal
chair can be made.
Onboard Wheelchairs
Every Continental aircraft with more than 60 seats has an onboard
wheelchair. These wheelchairs are specially designed to fit the aisle
of our aircraft and may be used by our semi-ambulatory customers to
move to and from the lavatory. Our inflight personnel are trained in
the use of this wheelchair and will assist you. This chair is not used
outside the aircraft and will always remain onboard since our fleet
cannot takeoff without this equipment.
Stair Chairs
Some Continental Express flights utilize stairs for customer boarding.
This is done at airports that do not have mechanical lifts. In these
instances boarding is arranged by utilizing a stair chair physically
carried by airline personnel. Continental Express ExpressJet (ERJ, SRJ)
aircraft will utilize jetway boarding whenever available.
Electric Cart (E-cart) Service
Continental's domestic hub facilities in Cleveland, Ohio - Hopkins
International Airport, Houston, TX - Bush Intercontinental Airport and
Newark International Airport, NJ, and various facilities throughout our
system all provide electric carts within the terminals for
semi-ambulatory customers who need assistance with distance
transportation.
Braille Safety Cards
Each Continental aircraft has a safety card in Braille available for
vision impaired customers. Please advise the gate agent of your need
for this information so he may relay this request to the flight
attendants.
Individual Safety Briefings
Customers may receive an individual safety briefing to ensure they are
properly advised of safety issues. These individual briefings can
include an explanation of where and when to exit and an inquiry to the
most appropriate manner in which the customer may be assisted.
Enroute Assistance
Flight attendants will offer assistance to semi-ambulatory customers in
getting to/from the seat during boarding and/or disembarkation and
to/from the onboard lavatory. They may assist with loading and
retrieving carry-on items and other assistive devices stowed on board
the aircraft. They will also assist with meal preparation such as
opening packages and identifying items. They cannot assist with any
medical services, assistance inside the lavatory, or in actual feeding.
Children Traveling Alone
Continental designates children from ages 5-14 as unaccompanied minors
when traveling without a companion of at least 18 years of age. This
could also include children ages 15-17 traveling alone and for whom the
parent or guardian requests special supervision.
Please Note:
-Unaccompanied minors under 5 years of age are not accepted
-Unaccompanied minors ages 5-7 years accepted for nonstop and direct flights only
-Unaccompanied minors ages 8-14 accepted for nonstop, direct and connecting flights
-Travel will not be allowed on a Continental flight departing between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless travel is on international flights, flights operating out of Honolulu, or domestic flights of 2 hours or less. Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted for travel on the last connecting flight of the day to their final destination. In addition, Unaccompanied Minors are not accepted on flights which require an overnight stay in order to make a connection.
-Unaccompanied minors are not accepted on Continental flights operated by Amtrak (this is train service) as a part of its codeshare agreement with Continental.
-Children traveling alone under the age of 15 years will not be accepted on any flights operated by Continental that connect to/from Air France, Alitalia, Emirates or Hawaiian Airlines operated flights.
Traveling with Infants
Continental does NOT accept infants in incubation or infants under 7 days old as passengers on any flight.
Continental will accept one child under two years of age traveling with
a parent or an adult 18 years or older, provided the child does not
occupy a seat. If there are two or more children under two years of age
traveling with the same passenger, only one of the children may travel
as a lap child. Any additional children under two years are required to
have a ticket, and pay the applicable children's fare.
Infant Seats
If they wish, customers may use an FAA approved infant seat. The infant
seat must be used in an unoccupied aircraft seat and cannot be held in
an adult's lap. The infant seat must remain properly secured to the
seat at all times, unless the passenger chooses to eventually store the
seat as a carry-on. Please also be aware the infant seat cannot be used
in an exit row, or in the row immediately before or after an exit row.
Ticketing
If the infant seat is to occupy a customer seat, the seat must be
purchased. The published child's fare will apply. Infants who are
carried in an adult's lap do not require a ticket for wholly domestic
travel. An infant ticket is required for international travel.
International taxes will be collected for all destinations outside of
the 50 U.S. states. Infants who are over two years old are required to
purchase a ticket and occupy a customer seat with a separate seat belt.
Infant Seating
Passengers traveling with infants may not be seated in exit rows. Due
to oxygen mask constraints, only one lap infant is allowed per seat
section and, on some aircraft, passengers with lap infants may not be
seated in certain rows.
Bassinets
Continental offers bassinets on select international/ transcontinental
flights for infants weighing 22 lbs. (approx. 10 kg.) or less.
Bassinets should be requested at the time reservation is made as
quantities are limited.
Traveling while Pregnant
-Women in any stage of pregnancy are accepted for transportation on Continental.
-Continental policy requires a doctor's certificate within 7 days of anticipated delivery. This should be advised when the reservation is made. However, boarding will only be denied if physical signs of labor are present.
-Women beyond the seventh month of pregnancy should be advised to consult a physician prior to traveling.
-Regulations regarding the use of seat belts must be observed.

-Continental's policy for service animals, such as seeing-eye dogs, has not changed, and they will continue to be welcomed on board or as checked baggage.

Senior Travelers:
|
|
Being a Senior Citizen should not stop you from taking advantage of all of Continental's convenient flights to great locations. However, we also recognize that Senior Citizens often do have special needs and concerns when they fly. Therefore, we wanted to point out a couple of tips that might make your travel easier.
If you feel you need to, please allow yourself extra time to get to the airport and to get from the entrance of the airport to your particular departure gate. Continental recommends that passengers arrive at the airport an hour prior to all domestic flights and two hours prior to all international flights. Please see airport processing times for further information.
If you or someone you are traveling with needs airport assistance because of a disability, Continental is more than happy to provide you with the assistance you need. Aside from airport assistance, we are also happy to help you store and retrieve any assistive devices that you need when you travel.
We look forward to making your flight a more comfortable one in the near future.
Discounts
Continental offers Senior fares to selected travel destinations for
passengers who are 65 and older. Ask for more details on these great
fares when you make your reservation, or when you make your booking on continental.com, select the Seniors (age 65 and older) category.

Wrapped Packages
Due to higher security levels at airports worldwide, gifts and packages
are subject to the same inspection as your carry-on baggage. To reduce
delays at the airport security checkpoint Continental recommends that
you travel with your packages unwrapped. This will allow for easy
inspection, if necessary.
Carry-On Bag
Continental will permit one bag plus one personal item (see below) per passenger to be carried on the aircraft.
The maximum combined linear measurement (L + W + H) of the carry-on bag is 51 inches (130 cm). The maximum weight of the carry-on bag is 40 pounds (18 kg).
Personal Items
In addition to the one carry-on item, you may bring free-of-charge the below items:
-one small personal article such as a briefcase, purse, day planner, small laptop computer, camera case, compact disk player or similar sized personal entertainment item
-personal aid devices such as wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, prosthetic devices and walking sticks, provided passenger is dependent on them.
-one infant article such as a collapsible stroller, a diaper bag or a government approved child seat.
Note: Most knives are not allowed past the security checkpoint (including, but not limited to, pocket knives, folding or retractable blades regardless of blade length or composition, box cutters, X-Acto knives, scissors with a pointed tip, straight razors, Leatherman or Swiss Army Knives). Plastic and round-bladed (not serrated) knives are permitted in carry-on baggage.
Laptop computers must be removed from their cases and placed on the baggage belt at the security checkpoint.
