The Luxor, in the relatively few years since its opening, has become an icon representing all things Vegas: Size, creativity, and audacious self-promotion. No photo of the Las Vegas skyline would be complete without it. The tallest building on the Strip when it was completed in 1993, the Luxor is now dwarfed by the surrounding hotel-casinos, a victim of the growth it helped created.
But even if the Luxor is minimized during the day, no hotel-casino shines brighter at night. The fixed-position spotlight at the apex of the pyramid is the brightest beam of light in the world, burning straight up throught the night sky at over 42 billion candle power. Jets at flight level over Los Angeles can see the Luxor light, 275 miles away. It's impossible to be lost in Las Vegas on a clear night... from anywhere in the valley, the clear, thin beam marks the location of the Luxor, on the South Strip. No further compass is necessary.
The spotlight's cost to the Luxor? $51 dollars per hour.
The Pyramid is, of course, the main attraction at the Luxor, but the hotel rooms in the East and West Towers have benefits that pyramid dwellers don't get to experience.
Guests in the Pyramid get slanting windows, interesting wall angles, and a great walk through the hotel atrium to access their quarters.
Guests in the Tower get newer facilities, floor to ceiling windows, and a shorter distance to their rooms.
The Luxor offers a variety of restaurants that cover almost every cuisine imaginable including a steak house, delicatessen, cafe restaurant, burger bar, buffet and more.
