"PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR"
NOW HAUNTING THE VENETIAN MUSICAL PHENOMENON DEBUTS IN NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART THEATRE
Las Vegas, Nevada (June 26, 2006) – The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE:LVS), has once again raised the stakes on the Las Vegas Strip with the opening of a new groundbreaking production of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TThe Phantom of the OperaT. The musical phenomenon is showcased in a brand new $40 million dollar state-of-the art theatre designed and built specifically for the show.
“The Venetian is proud to present TThe Phantom of the OperaT in a custom-built theatre that will amaze all who enter it and truly maximize this incredible experience for each and every guest,” said Rob Goldstein, president and chief operating officer of The Venetian.
The new production transports theatergoers to The Paris Opera House and boasts a series of special effects, including a crashing replica of the famed chandelier. The 95-minute version of the musical includes every song from the original and is directed by 20-time Tony Award winner Harold Prince.
The Phantom opening comes just months after The Venetian welcomed the Blue Man Group – one of Las Vegas’ most popular and longest-running shows. And The Venetian is not finished adding to its wide variety of nighttime entertainment; later this year The Venetian will welcome comedic impressionist Gordie Brown to yet another new custom-designed theater.
“This diverse entertainment line-up along with our award winning restaurants and the extremely popular TAO Nightclub enables us to offer our guests the most enticing nightlife in the city,” said Goldstein. “The Venetian has taken its place as the premier entertainment destination within America’s most exhilarating city.”
The most successful theatrical endeavor of all time, TThe Phantom of the OperaT has grossed more than $3 billion worldwide since its London premiere in 1986, having played more than 65,000 performances in 20 countries and 110 cities.
