Hey. There's a whole store behind that store!

From the outside looking in, the store is tiny, with what looks like four or five items for sale. But once inside, the back wall reveals itself to be a half wall, with an entire room behind it. Why? According to Dan Barteluce, designer of the Encore Esplanade shops, it's because Steve Wynn wants it that way.

"He doesn't want customers to walk into the shops and see everything with one view."

Wynn, the owner of both the Wynn & Encore hotel/casinos, worked closely with Barteluce during the project. The Encore Esplanade connects The Wynn to the Encore by means of a luxurious, woven-canopied walkway, and the resort magnate brought his personal attention to detail to the project. "This two-year process was really exciting for us because we had an owner who actually was interested in what we were doing, Barteluce said. It wasn't a corporation where we were dealing with a designer; we were actually dealing with the owner of the company.

Hence the careful design, purposed to give customers a sense of discovery. Appropriate, given that there are only 12 stores total in the Esplanade. Shopping in Las Vegas is very competitive, and all Vegas shops need to offer something different. Wynn resorts use a team of over ten buyers who scour the world to find exclusive items. The Swim store, for example, located closest to the swimming pool, boasts sea-creature inspired driftwood and a wall designed to mimic a cresting wave.

One-of-a-Kind Shopping in Las Vegas

There's the Homestore, exclusive to the Wynn properties. The front room is a replica of an Encore suite, but everything is for sale, from the Wynn Dream Bed to hotel decorations. And when shopping in Las Vegas, Shades is the only retailer of Givenchy and Luxuriator sunglasses. Diamond-encrusted and 18-karat gold frames contain the most technologically advanced lenses. Light boxes throughout the store display custom-created works of art. At the In Step, every pair of shoes on display in the window are exclusive to the Encore. Rock & Republic's only stand-alone boutique is here, designed to re-imagine the company's SoHo office loft.

You can buy complete outfits along with standard hotel necessities at the Encore Esplanade, making it perfect for the traveler who has somehow lost all their clothing and bathroom accessories, but retained their credit card.
